I couldn’t tell you why, but I’m dying for a cocktail tonight.
Not a glass of wine. Not an old standby like a martini or a bourbon, straight up. I’m in the mood for something a little fancy, a little girly, and definitely a little bit sweet. On evenings like this, when I’m feeling indulgent and just a tiny bit poofy, a drink like the Bee’s Kiss is just what I’m after.
The name alone makes me happy just to say it.
It’s creamy. It’s sweet but not cloying. And with 2 oz. of liquor, it’s almost guaranteed to leave you (or me at least) with just a little buzz. (Sorry, I couldn’t resist.)
Now, this drink isn’t for everyone. I know folks who would rather run out of a bar than imbibe anything with honey in it. (Who knew a bottle of Drambuie could have such powers?) Also, since it’s made with cream, it’s the kind of thing you order when you want to have just one cocktail and really enjoy it.
Bee’s Kiss
3/4 oz. light cream
2 tsp. honey
1 oz. light rum
1 oz. dark rum
Method matters on this one.
Add the two rums and the honey to an empty shaker. Shake vigorously until all the honey dissolves. This is important, because once you add the cold ingredients, any remaining honey will seize up and refuse to dissolve.
Fill the shaker 3/4 full with ice. Add the cream. Shake hard to mix well.
Strain into a cocktail glass and serve neat.
